Take a leap into the world of adaptation and celebrate the excitement of seeing your favourite books on the big screen at Blussh’s inaugural Lussh Literary Lunch, ‘Lit To Lens’.

The transformation from page to screen allows readers to develop a deeper connection to a story while creating new opportunities for audiences to discover and celebrate the magic of romance.

Romance novels often feature emotionally charged, visually-striking scenes: first kisses, dramatic confrontations, or sweeping romantic gestures. Films have the ability to amplify these moments with cinematography, music, and acting, creating unforgettable visual experiences.

From favourites like Pride and Prejudice, The Notebook and Call Me By Your Name to recent adaptations like The Idea of You, and Colleen Hoover’s global phenomenon It Ends With Us, readers have been seeing, and will continue to see, popular novels hit both the big and small screens.

Join us for an intimate In Conversation event as we take a deep dive into the adaptation process and celebrate New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today best-selling author Kylie Scott’s novel Lick, recently adapted from book to film. We’ll discuss how the opportunity came about, Kylie’s screenwriting experience, unexpected surprises during the process, and how she feels about seeing Lick come to life in moving pictures.

Alongside Kylie Scott, hear from special guests:
  • Ally Blake - Direct from the How to Write Academy, Ally Blake shares the intriguing viewpoint of how to watch films like a writer. Created by the formidable Amy Andrews, Jennifer St George, Clare Connelly and Ally Blake, we’ll unpack their popular Podcast/Youtube course, How To Watch Movies Like a Writer, and take you on a unique journey of discovery, diving into romance films through the eyes of a romance writer.

  • Elle Croxford - author of The Sentimental Blonde, a novel based on the enduring love story between Lottie Lyell and Raymond Longford as they produced Australia’s first blockbuster movie The Sentimental Bloke, while keeping their forbidden love affair and her life-threatening illness a secret. Elle Croxford will help unpack this intriguing tale and the process of turning real life people into characters in a book.

…more guests to be announced soon!

Lunch tickets include a delicious lunch bowl and beverage to enjoy during the panel (event only ticket available).

Following the In Conversation event, stay for a very special in cinema screening of Lick in Angelika Cinemas with special guests in attendance.

Book signings: After the In Conversation, authors will be signing books in the Angelika foyer. You can purchase the authors’ books (and many more) at the Shelf Lovers pop-up bookstore in the foyer.

Stay a while: Enjoy a day out at Blussh!  Start with poetry, move to explore the hand made markets and then take a seat for the Revival of the Rom Com author event.
